Study case – Heavy Duty

High-voltage battery for heavy duty vehicles

Aliant Battery has developed a high-voltage LFP battery designed for vehicles used to handle large containers, applications that require high power, operational reliability, and extremely low downtime for recharging. The vehicle manufacturer needed an energy solution capable of powering hydraulic systems and equipment with high current peaks, while maintaining high vehicle operational availability. The solution designed features a high-voltage battery with a capacity of 660Ah, combined with a rapid direct current (DC) charging system that minimizes charging times and ensures the intensive operating cycles typical of port and intermodal terminals.

Operational requirements for container handling

The vehicles used in ports, freight villages, and logistics centers operate under particularly harsh working conditions, with repeated loading cycles and high power requirements. In this context, the storage system must guarantee:

  • High power available for handling heavy loads
  • High starting currents for driving hydraulic systems and operating equipment
  • Long-term reliability even with intensive work cycles
  • Reduced charging times to maximize vehicle availability
  • Operational continuity during extended work shifts

LFP (Lithium Iron Phosphate) technology is an ideal choice for these applications thanks to its chemical stability, operational safety, and long service life.

Fast charging system to reduce downtime

To ensure maximum vehicle operability, the storage system has been designed with a series of chargers capable of working in parallel and allowing rapid recharging with direct current (DC). This allows for:

  • Significantly reduce downtime
  • Plan quick recharges during short breaks in operation
  • Increase vehicle availability during work shifts

DC charging is a fundamental solution in port and logistics applications, where every minute of machine downtime directly affects the productivity of the entire supply chain.

Performance and reliability for heavy-duty applications

Thanks to the combination of LFP batteries, high-voltage architecture, and a fast-charging system, the solution developed by Aliant Battery guarantees:

  • High power for heavy-duty applications
  • Ability to power systems with high inrush currents
  • Fast recharging to reduce machine downtime
  • Operational reliability even with intensive cycles
  • Long operating life of the storage system

This solution demonstrates Aliant Battery’s ability to design advanced energy storage systems for construction equipment, industrial vehicles, and high-intensity logistics applications.
