Advantages of LFP cells

Lithium iron phosphate batteries offer numerous advantages over lead-acid, nickel, or manganese batteries
and even over traditional lithium-ion batteries.

Greater security

LFP cells are inherently more stable and less prone to overheating and fire, even under extreme stress.

Longer lifespan

Much longer lifespans than lead, nickel, and manganese, with over 2,000–3,000 charge/discharge cycles.

Lightweight

LFP batteries are lighter, which improves efficiency and performance.

Fast charge

Significantly shorter charging times compared to lead-acid batteries.

Low self-discharge

They hold their charge longer when not in use.

Reduced environmental impact

Absence of toxic heavy metals such as lead or nickel and greater recyclability.

Cell Structure and Chemistry

Lithium iron phosphate (LFP) cells are one of the most advanced solutions in the field of rechargeable batteries. An LFP cell consists primarily of:

  • Catode: Lithium Iron Phosphate (LiFePO₄)
  • Anode: Graphite
  • Electrolyte: Liquid solution containing lithium ions
  • Insulator: A membrane that prevents direct contact between the anode and cathode but allows ions to pass through
The chemistry of LFP cells is based on the movement of lithium ions between the anode and cathode during charging and discharging. During charging, lithium ions move from the cathode (LiFePO₄) to the anode (graphite), where they are stored. During discharging, the process is reversed, releasing electrical energy in a stable and safe manner.

Alichem: LFP chemistry according to Aliant

Alichem is the proprietary technology developed by Aliant for its lithium iron phosphate cells, designed to maximize safety, performance, and longevity. Thanks to a careful selection of raw materials and advanced manufacturing processes, Alichem guarantees:

  • Exceptional thermal and chemical stability
  • Higher energy density compared to standard LFP batteries
  • Reduced cell degradation
  • Consistent performance even after thousands of cycles
  • Compliance with the highest European safety standards

Alichem chemistry is the result of years of research and development and forms the core of Aliant batteries, offering a reliable and innovative alternative for industrial and automotive applications as well as energy storage systems.
