VINTAGE CAR TURNED ELECTRIC – NSU PRINZ 4

VINTAGE CAR TURNED ELECTRIC – NSU PRINZ 4

NSU PRINZ 4

Saturday morning 05/02/2022 we received a visit from Mr. Fausto Golinelli, the well-known retired mechanic from Imola who electrified his fantastic NSU Prinz 4. This car model, designed in Germany in the 1950s, originally had an initial weight 555kg and Mr. Golinelli managed to electrify it reaching a total weight of only 660kg!

After obtaining approval from the Tuv body in Germany, this gem has traveled over 10 thousand kilometers with zero emissions.

FEATURES NSU PRINZ 4

Mr. Fausto’s NSU Prinz 4 has a 15KW 20hp and 48V motor, is equipped with a Curtis 1236 Inverter, electronic accelerator, BMS control, and 16 LFMP 3,2V 200AH batteries. A perfect green city car with a maximum speed of 100km / h, a range of 100km and energy recovery in deceleration.

And to recharge it? Simple, just a simple domestic socket of 3kWh and only about 3 and a half hours.

What about consumption and price? Golinelli also responds to this in an article published on Vaielettrico:

“For 100 km rate I spend 3 euros, with the same petrol car I would spend 9, with LPG 5 and with the diesel camper 13 euros. I tried to measure consumption in the mountains, in a steep 10 km climb where the battery consumed 3 kWh while in the following 10 km in zero descent and I recovered 1 kWh of energy. A total consumption in the 20 km of 2 kWh or the same amount of what I would have consumed in the plains. In addition to low consumption, the classic electric car has many other advantages compared to petrol ones: I don’t have to wait for the engine to warm up to get a good carburetion; then it offers a better acceleration or like the modern small cars. What’s more, the gearbox has become automatic, I always drive in fourth gear. “

Mr. Golinelli’s passion for this German car is visible in his blog where he shows his 6 electric NSU Prinz models, repair tips and spare parts manuals.

We were very enthusiastic about this meeting and we infinitely thank Mr. Fausto Golinelli for giving us his time and sharing valuable information with us.
