HOW TO REVOLUTIONIZE THE CLEANING OF THE STREETS

HOW TO REVOLUTIONIZE THE CLEANING OF THE STREETS

electrification of road cleaning vehicles

Urban vehicles that cross our cities every day must be less polluting for human and for the environment.

STUDIES AND RESEARCH

The data reported by some studies make us understand the gravity of the situation.

ISPRA has forecast an increase in emissions for 2021 of 0.3%, compared to 2020, due to the resumption of economic activities.

Ener2Crowd, on the other hand, highlights another alarming fact: one million tons emitted produce as many as 240 deaths, the equivalent of the annual emissions of 220,000 cars in a year, or 35 airliners.

Electrifying allows to reduce Co2 emissions by obtaining higher levels of energy efficiency and more effective consumption management, this consideration made by the e-Mobility Revolution study is of fundamental importance.

GARBAGE TRUCK

A first example of a very polluting urban vehicle is certainly the waste collection truck.

Working at night, these vehicles need to be very quiet as well as not very polluting.

Copenhagen has decided to focus on electrification with the introduction of 100 electric garbage trucks by 2025. These vehicles will be designed by Scania and the first vehicles will enter service this year.

“The plan provides that the vehicles go out twice a day and recharge in the remaining period of time. The fast charging will take place between the two shifts while the slow one will be done during the night, outside peak hours, when electricity is more environmentally friendly and cheaper”, pointed out Per Fischer, Contract Manager at Amager Resource Center ( ARC).

Another example is the Renault Trucks D Wide Z.E. created by the collaboration of Renault Trucks Italia and Gorent Spa, a leading company in the rental of vehicles for public hygiene services. The introduction of this vehicle will result in a 75% reduction in emissions, thus complying with the increasingly restrictive environmental regulations of many cities. With reduced operating and maintenance costs, payload equal to that of a non-electric vehicle and very fast charging times, it is ideal for operating even in limited traffic areas (ZTL).

ROAD CLEANING VEHICLES

The electrification of road cleaning vehicles therefore allows for numerous advantages: from reduced operating and maintenance costs, to energy efficiency improvements and more effective consumption management.

Furthermore, the advantages also concern workers and citizens, as electrifying street cleaning vehicles allows them to work even all night in maximum silence, with a reduction in Co2 emissions.
